Where Was I?

Since it's been THREE WEEKS since I have written anything in my wip, I've been trying to get back into the story. It hasn't been smooth going.

Sure, I've worked out some plot issues in my head thanks to some light bulb moments, but I'm just having trouble getting into that groove. You know, the one where you're on a roll and you don't realize an hour has gone by. That one.

I guess I'm having trouble remembering the mood I was in, if that makes any sense at all. I wish I had made notes about where I was headed before my screen went out. That's what I usually do when I know I won't be writing for a bit. I write a brief outline of what's next and when I come back it's all ready. Argh.

How's your writing going? And tricks for getting back into the groove? Have I asked that question before? Probably.

It's shocking, but my writing has been coming along! In other words, I've been writing stuff. Every day.

Good luck getting back into your story. It's hard, but you'll get there in no time! I have no tricks, except for sitting and staring at the screen for a while.

Take an hour (or as much time as you have free, maybe a whole evening), sit in your chair and DON'T DO ANYTHING.

All you're allowed to do in that time is write. If you don't write, you're not allowed to do anything else either, just stare at the wall.

You'll either write or waste an evening, lol. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat except with doing the last edits on what I hope is the final draft. It sucks to lose the momentum. Maybe try putting on a cd or a song that fits a scene of the story and see if that helps you? I've been doing that and managed my way through a chapter and a bit on the weekend. good luck!

It's hard when you don't work on something for a long time and then you have to get yourself back into "the mood." I like what Emma suggested. Or just read over what you wrote and try to get back into that mind set. Easier said than done, I know...

Good luck!

Write at least an hour a day now. Even if it's crap, keep writing. Write journal entries in main characters' points of view. Love Emma's idea too!

I do a lot more reading when I need to get back on tast. Or do write offs with friends. Where we'll IM each other and check in every hour with word counts. It's hard though sometimes.

I know how you feel April. It's tough getting back in the groove. That's why usually like to have a notebook of all my stories full of all my notes. But for some reason recently, I've been ditching the planning and just jumping in. It's taking a lot longer for things to work out for me that way.

LOL - I have no idea what to do about slumps...that's why when the groove is working, I ride it as long as I can!!

I think reading is really good. As soon as I get into the characters and emotions, it gets my creativity flowing - and it makes me miss writing my own story. (Even when you read a bad book, and think - "I can write 10 times better than this!" lol)
Good luck!

I hope you get out of your slump soon! I want to know what happens to those characters! :)

I normally let the story run in my head, and then do what Emma says. Good luck getting back in the groove, April!
