Writing Like A Nut...

I'm still in the beginning, so things are going very smooth for me and I'm writing like crazy. Well, crazy for me.

And this of course makes me very happy. The danger is coming though. It's the "hump". That's what I call chapters 3 & 4. Because that's what they are for me. A hump. One I seem to srtuggle to get over every time.

Since I'm trying a new approach, an outline-but not in grave detail, I have no idea if the hump will be as bad or not. Let's hope not.

In the meantime, I've already started bugging my hubby by listening to Christmas music. The listening doesn't bother him so much. I use headphones with my itunes while I write. I think it's the off-key singing along that really gets him. Guess he shouldn't turn the football classics he's been watching all week in preparation for the beginning of college football next week, up so loud and I wouldn't have to compensate. ;-)

So here's what I want to know... Do you have a "hump" you traditionally experience in your writing process? And how do you get over it?

Oh yeah I definitely hit a hump. When it's a full length novel, it's around chapter 5. A short story, I panic around the end cos I'm afraid I'm wrapping it up too quick.

Sounds like you're making progress - that's awesome! I've been writing like a fiend this week too...

I've been in humpland for a while now. If you figure out how to get past it, please let me know! WTG on all the progress you've made though.

My hump hits around half-way through - big time. I'll go a month without writing a word.
Usually...there's something in my ms that's not quite right, and I just have to stop the denial and change it.

I bet your outline helps you get past the Ch3 mark - since you'll have more direction and more of your conflict thought out with your outline...

Oh, sista, I'm right there with you! I'm beginning chapter 4 and although the first 3 chaps zoomed, I'm feeling a bit shaky now. Too much speed in the beginning, I guess : ) Nonetheless, I am determined to heed my own advice: write through it, no matter what, even if I skip ahead and write other scenes.

Keep going! You can do it! :)

Oh I love your little counter dude!!! I want one!!! :)

I have a hump problem too - as I'm sure you know all about being you've only read the silly rewritten chapter how many times.... :)

Each time I write a book I hope it won't be like that but... I guess for me it is.

Have fun writing!

My hump also comes around the end of chapter 3, beginning of chapter 4. I think it's like in marriage - 3d, 7th, and - I think - 15th years are the hardest. After that, I heard, it gets easier.
